Place Royale  Nancy  1767 Folio

The ironwork was designed and executed by  Jean Lamour  with engravings from ' Collection of works in locksmiths, which Stanislas king of Poland, duke of Lorraine and Bar, has made pose on the Place royale de Nancy, to the glory of Louis the Bien-Aimé, composed and executed by Jean Lamour, his usual locksmith' /Recueil des Fondations et Etablissemens faits par le Roi de Pologne duc de Lorraine et de Bar & les Bâtimens que Sa Majesté Polonoise fait élever dans la ville de Nancy pour son embelissement. ... . Published inn Nancy at the author's house, and at Paris at Francis's, without date (1768 - privilege dated December 16, 1767). In-plano/folio, 3 image totalling -  7 double  sheets ( five are text but missing )  and 20 single, set engraved on copper, modern halftone.
First edition,  of this rare work of the designs of the locksmith and ironworker Jean Lamour (1698-1779) for the place Royale of Nancy (future Place Stanislas). The set opens on the engraved frontiespiece title ( absolutely filthy but would clean as on strong rag paper),   A complete copy of the 20 +3 plates engraved by Collin and Nicole, father and son, drawn from Lamour's drawings, the first of which, representing the two large iron gates of Place-Royale square in Nancy, consists of four sections, a folded upper part. ***There is none of the usual text present  but are in a loose card folio The full set is two folios one of text with vignettes one of illustrations and about £3k++ and in museums. Provenence came from a local library of an ex diplomats family***

This print is a dedication page from Recueil des ouvrages en serrurerie (1767), an album of engraving featuring metalwork designs by the French ironmonger, blacksmith, and master metalworker Jean Lamour (1698-1771). The Recueil features detailed views of the wrought-iron gates and railings that Lamour made for Place Stanislas and Hôtel de Ville (city hall) in Nancy, a city in northeast France. These were commissioned and funded by Stanislav I Leszczyński, the King of Poland (reg 1704–9), and the Duke of Lorrain and Bar, to whom the album is appropriately dedicated.. . . . it will clean easily
