  Smeaton's Eddystone Lighthouse

 Chromo-lithograph Published by  Leighton Bros, Drury Lane  1845 ( active 1845-1855, printers, London, England  Printers based at Stanhope House, Drury Lane, London, WC. ) The  lighthouse built on the treacherous Eddystone Rocks in the English Channel, just off the British coast at Plymouth, completed in 1709 by John Rudyerd . Smeaton's Tower is the third and most notable Eddystone Lighthouse. It marked a major step forward in the design of lighthouses. In use from 1759 to 1877, it was largely dismantled and rebuilt on Plymouth Hoe in the city of Plymouth, Devon, where it now stands as a memorial to its designer, John Smeaton, the celebrated civil engineer. rare large early print £65 inc delivery mounted
