Or, an account of the antiquitys and remarkable curiositys in nature or art, observ'd in travels thro' Great Brittan." published in 1724  .  William Stukeley, included his observations of Roman and pre Roman, Celtic sites etc  showing walls, floors, walls , houses etc remaining at that date so useful for archaeologists   William Stukeley (7 November 1687 – 3 March 1765) was an English antiquarian, influential on the later development of archaeology, he pioneered the scholarly investigation of the prehistoric monuments of Stonehenge and Avebury in Wiltshire. Kingswere
 
SCARCE: plate 27   in the book Turner and Girtin*s 'Picturesque Views, Sixty Years Since' (London: J. Hogarth, 1854) engraved by J. Walker drawn by Turner.Later but identical to the Copperplate one ie this is a reworking of the Copperplate Magazine Original £20 mounted .Thomas Girtin originally worked in London as the apprentice to mezzotint engraver, Edward Dayes. He then met J.M.W. Turner who recognized his drawing skills and encouraged him to paint landscapes. He began painting with watercolors and exhibited them at the Royal Academy beginning in 1794, thus developing an appreciation for the medium. Girtin also collaborated with Turner on a project copying architectural paintings, many by Canaletto. In 1802, Girtin died from tuberculosis at the age of twenty-seven. tinted and mounted




Stevenstone Park
published in Francis Orpen Morris's, A Series of Picturesque Views of Seats of the Noblemen & Gentlemen of Great Britain and Ireland Mounted..., in 1884. William TRAIES (1789-1872)  Old Billmarsh Mill Near Churdleigh
 Called 'The Devonshire Claude' He was born in Crediton. Starting as a clerk in Exeter Post Office. Hus talent was recognised by John Gendall, & became patronised by Rev. Patch of Trinity, Exeter, and Rev. Carrington of Bridford. Had a studio at Whiteway, Chudleigh for 40 years.Exhibited at Royal Academy. Examples in V&A., & Exeter Museum. Died at Parkers Well Cottage, Topsham Rd., Exeter. Original Watercolour with title etc to mount in what looks an early  frame ( repainted) very detailed with good perspective so probably a study for a later oil Affordable and less flat than his later oils  £425 inc delivery less collected as way oversize for royal mail
