Size  22 X 36 centimeter Folds as issued Worked on James Cook's voyages (Copies of earlier engravings from others for a Dutch edition of the accounts: I. S. Klauber, Amsterdam 1795)He was the most renowned member of his family. He first studied with his father, then went to Rome, then to Paris to study with Johann Georg Wille. He was accepted at the Paris Academy and became Graveur du Roi soon later, but went back to Augsburg during French Revolution, moved on to Nuremberg and finally, in 1796, to St. Petersburg, where he became engraver of the court and director of the Academy of Engravers. He very probably died in St. Petersburg. £45 inc delivery

 Copper engraving from Henri Chatelain  from Atlas Historique 1719 .  Divided in 4 panels plus descriptions, costumes of Ottoman princes. Zacharie Chatelain (d.1723) was the father of Henri Abraham (1684-1743) and Zacharie Junior (1690-1754). They worked as a partnership publishing the Atlas Historique, Ou Nouvelle Introduction A L'Histoire ? under several different Chatelain imprints, depending on the Chatelain family partnerships at the time of publication. The atlas was published in seven volumes between 1705 and 1720, and a second edition appearing in 1732. £85 inc delivery

European Russia
 John Thompson (1777-1840) was a Scottish cartographer from Edinburgh. Like many cartographers in the 18th century, Thompson moved away from the decorative cartouches and colorful maps of his predecessors and chose to detail his maps with precision and definition. Thompson published “New General Atlas” in 1817 in partnership with James Kirkwood, the leading engraver in Edinburgh. Kirkwood’s printmaking family produced most of the banknotes of Scotland, maps, globes and atlases and was well acknowledged for their great skill. CONDITION ISSUES :- tear just above central fold to left small area of loss and repair one foxing blob near base £95 less collected
