Hand-coloured copper engraved print f rom "Index Testarum Conchyliorum". from the set of 110 engravings
Drawn by Giuseppe Menabuoni(1708-after 1745) and engraved by Antonio Pazzi (1706-after 1768) who were both Italian painters, printmakers and Niccol'o Gualtieri was a medical doctor and professor at the University of Pisa, whose avocation was the study of molluscs. He devised a system of classification of the shells for this book. Menabuoni's plates reproduce specimens of Gualtieri's shells,many of which are still in the collection of the Museum of Natural History and the Territory in the Certosa di Calci, operated under the auspices of the University of Pisa.
