Image approximately 10 x 16.25 inches Engraving, The capture of Saint Kitts by the French also known as the Siege of Brimstone Hill (January 19 - February 13, 1782) is a seat of the American Revolutionary War . After having landed at Saint-Christophe , the French troops of the Marquis de Bouillé surround and besiege the fortress of Brimstone Hill . After a month of siege, the British garrison, lower in number and hopeless to receive reinforcements, finally capitulated. The Comte de Grasse , who had convoyed the troops of the Marquis de Bouillé and supported the siege, was driven out of its anchorage by the fleet of Admiral Hood . Although Hood's fleet was less than a third, de Grasse was unable to dislodge enemy ships . Hood's attempt to break the siege was unsuccessful, however, and the garrison capitulated after a month. A year later, the Treaty of Paris retrocedes Saint-Christophe and the neighboring island of Niévès to the British. £55 RARE

Publications illustrated by Clark include ‘Field Sports Etc. of the Native Inhabitants of New South Wales’ (1813) and ‘Practical Illustration of Gilpin’s Day’ (1824). He died in Edinburgh in October 1863. Matthew Dubourg was a London-based aquatint engraver of sporting, military and topographical views, made after works by contemporary artists. He often collaborated with the draughtsman and aquatint engraver John Clark. Dubourg exhibited two miniature portraits at the Royal Academy in 1786 and 1797, when his address was 17 Duke Street, off Manchester Square. On 17 November 1812 he was attempting to close a gap between the 5th and 7th Divisions when he was taken by surpise. Alone, but for a single Spanish orderly, and having lost an arm in 1809, he was in no position to defend himself. Paget had proved himself to be an able commander - he handled the rearguard with great skill during the retreat to Corunna. Image approximately 10 x 16.25 inches Engraving, The capture of Saint Kitts by the French also known as the Siege of Brimstone Hill (January 19 - February 13, 1782) is a seat of the American Revolutionary War . After having landed at Saint-Christophe , the French troops of the Marquis de Bouillé surround and besiege the fortress of Brimstone Hill . After a month of siege, the British garrison, lower in number and hopeless to receive reinforcements, finally capitulated. The Comte de Grasse , who had convoyed the troops of the Marquis de Bouillé and supported the siege, was driven out of its anchorage by the fleet of Admiral Hood . Although Hood's fleet was less than a third, de Grasse was unable to dislodge enemy ships . Hood's attempt to break the siege was unsuccessful, however, and the garrison capitulated after a month. A year later, the Treaty of Paris retrocedes Saint-Christophe and the neighboring island of Niévès to the British. £55 RARE
