Appleby
 plate from the book Turner and Girtin*s 'Picturesque Views, Sixty Years Since' (London: J. Hogarth, 1854) engraved by J. Walker drawn by Turner.Later but identical to the Copperplate one ie this is a reworking of the Copperplate Magazine Original £20 mounted /Thomas Girtin originally worked in London as the apprentice to mezzotint engraver, Edward Dayes. He then met J.M.W. Turner who recognized his drawing skills and encouraged him to paint landscapes. He began painting with watercolors and exhibited them at the Royal Academy beginning in 1794, thus developing an appreciation for the medium. Girtin also collaborated with Turner on a project copying architectural paintings, many by Canaletto. In 1802, Girtin died from tuberculosis at the age of twenty-seven. mounted untinted

Thomas Moule (1784-1851) was a scholar and writer on heraldry and antiquities who worked in London as a bookseller and later on worked in the Lord Chamberlain's department.The County Maps for which he is best known were first published in the 1830's in the reign of William IV and re-issued in 1841 in the reign of Victoria. Steel engraved map  Size 19.5x28.5cms. Thomas Moule (1784-1851) was a scholar and writer on heraldry and antiquities who worked in London as a bookseller and later on worked in the Lord Chamberlain's department.The County Maps for which he is best known were first published in the 1830's in the reign of William IV and re-issued in 1841 in the reign of Victoria. The original steel plates were used for all issues, but they were amended in the later edition to show the railways. Untinted £20

Westmorland County Map/Cary

John CARY (c.1754-1835) was based in London. From the Miniature version of his County Maps, The Travellers' Companion, from 1790 to 1828.Size .16 x 10 cm. At the end of the eighteenth century, Cary was commissioned by the Postmaster-General to survey of all the principal roads in the country. His method of measurement was to use a 4' wheel connected to a counter, which kept a tally of the number of rotations. £15 x 3

Morden was an accomplished cartographer and the first to show longitudes measured from the meridian of St. Paul's Cathedral.
