Classical Engraving Hamilton Bisque In Bespoke Frames

Hamilton bisques in bespoke wooden frames. Copperplate engraving attributed as by Thomas Kirk (1765-1797) from Sir William Hamilton’s Outlines from the Figures and Compositions upon the Greek, Roman and Etruscan Vases of the Late Sir Hamilton, T. M’Lean, London, 1834. The have verde eglomise mounts on two and  are part of a set in bespoke very high quality wooden frames by the O'Shea gallery that was in Mayfair from the 1970's. They were produced as a Georgian Print room display for a New York exhibition then sat in a dusty store. They all appear to be Herculaneum inspired so contemporary with that excavation. Sold  as decorative  framed pics  as a shame to open them etc and for once relying on the gallery info . All will post or as usual cheaper when collected . Pound coin on the pic to add scale. Presse Ludovico Mirri Mercante d’Quadri incontro al Palazzo Bernini a Roma No.41  Original  antique engraving with modern bodycolour from a series of original engravings published by Lodovico Mirri in the late 18th century and engraved by the Italian print maker Marco Gregorio Carloni ( 1742-1796 ). These copper engravings were based on the drawings made by Francesco Smuglewicz ( 1745-1807 ) of the frescoes which had been uncovered in the ruins of Nero’s House of Gold ‘ Domus Aureus ‘ situated between the Palatine and Esquiline Hills and designed by architects Severus and Celer after the great fire that destroyed Rome. From the  folio of engravings …'Vesrgia delle terme di Tito e loro interne pitture'… depicting the ‘al fresco’ and ‘al stucco’ murals of Nero’s Domus Aureus.
